Étude expérimentale sur les effets du traitement ostéopathique dans l’amélioration de la qualité de vie des patients atteints de sinusite chronique

Résumé

Introduction : La sinusite chronique est une pathologie qui concerne un grand nombre de sujets adultes de nos jours. Cependant de nombreux patients font face à l’inefficacité des traitements médicaux standards et viennent consulter en ostéopathie. Nous nous sommes donc demandé si une étude pourrait statistiquement évaluer l’intérêt de l’ostéopathie dans la prise en charge de ces patients.

Matériel et méthode : Cette étude comprend huit patients répartis dans deux groupes de façon aléatoire soit traité en ostéopathie, soit placebo. Le protocole consistait en deux séances espacées de 10jours, comprenant un examen clinique global, des tests spécifiques, puis une prise en charge ostéopathique ou du Light touch. La qualité de vie a été évaluée grâce au questionnaire SNOT 22.

Résultats : Les résultats du questionnaire ont montré une amélioration significative de la qualité de vie des patients traités. En effet, le test de Mann-Whitney appliqué aux résultats obtenus a calculé un p = 0.03. L’examen clinique a pu mettre en évidence la prévalence de certaines régions dysfonctionnelles, telles que l’articulation occipito-atloïdienne, le foramen jugulaire ou le mésentère.

Discussion : L’intervention d’un ostéopathe dans la prise en charge de ces patients aurait donc sa pertinence, compte tenu des résultats obtenus. L’intérêt d’une étude future sur deux groupes distincts afin de réévaluer l’influence de la prise de certains médicaments a également été mis en évidence. On a pu observer que bien que le faible nombre de patients limite l’application de ces résultats à la population, ceux-ci étaient en adéquation avec les précédentes études réalisées.

Conclusion : Ce mémoire a permis d’appuyer les résultats obtenus par Elisabeth Loureiro en 2015 qui tendait à prouver l’intérêt d’une pris en charge ostéopathique pour ce type de patient. Il serait néanmoins intéressant de réaliser d’autres études sur ce sujet en évitant certains biais, notamment le recrutement.

Abstract

Title : Experimental study on the effects of osteopathic treatment in the improvement of the quality of life of the patients affected by chronic sinusitis.

Introduction : The chronic sinusitis is a pathology which concerned a large number of grown-up subjects nowadays. However numerous patients face the ineffectiveness of the standard medical treatments and come to consult in osteopathy. Thus we wondered if a study could statically estimate the interest of the osteopathy in the coverage of these patients.

Materials and Methods : This study includes eight patients distributed in two groups in a random way either handled in osteopathy, or placebo. The protocol consisted in two sessions spaced out of 10 days, including a global clinical examination, specific tests, then an osteopathic coverage or a Light touch. The quality of life was estimated thanks to the questionnaire SNOT 22.

Results : The results of the questionnaire showed a significant improvement of the quality of life of the handled patients. Indeed, the test of Mann-Whitney applied to the obtained results calculated a p = 0.03. The clinical examination was able to highlight prevalence of certain dysfunctional regions, such as the articulation between the first cervical vertebra and the occiput, the jugular foramen, or the mesentery.

Discussion : The intervention of an osteopath in the coverage of these patients would thus have its relevance, considering the obtained results. The interest of a future study on two different groups to revalue the influence of the grip of certain medicine highlights. We were able to observe that although the weak number of patients limits the application of these results to the population, these were in adequacy with the previous studies carried out.

Conclusion : This report allowed to support the results obtained by Elisabeth Loureiro in 2015 which tended to prove the interest of one taken care osteopathic for this type of patient. It would nevertheless be interesting to realize other studies on this subject by avoiding certain biases, in particular the recruitment.
