Résumé
L’ostéopathie, depuis ses origines, a sans cesse rappelé l’importance de sa philosophie. Si elle a su créer à la fin du XIXe siècle une discipline de soin, affranchie de la médecine conventionnelle, c’est qu’elle a su proposer des principes porteurs d’une nouvelle vision de l’homme et de la santé.
Ce travail se penche d’abord sur la vie et la pensée des trois pères fondateurs de la discipline, afin d’essayer de retrouver l’essence même de ces principes fondamentaux. Nous les comparons ensuite aux principes actuels de la philosophie ostéopathique afin de voir comment ils ont évolué, après un siècle et demi de grands changements scientifiques, religieux et sociaux.
Nous avons ainsi l’occasion d’évaluer tous les enjeux qui se cachent derrière chacun de ces principes pour l’ensemble de notre profession. Enfin nous analysons quels sont les types de pratique qui découlent actuellement des différentes interprétations de la philosophie ostéopathique. Nous pouvons alors définir si nous parvenons réellement à être fidèles à la philosophie de notre discipline.

Abstract
Title : Are we faithful to osteopathic philosophy ? Abstract.
Since its origins, osteopathy has constantly reminded the importance of its philosophy. At the end of the XIXth century, osteopathy succeeded in creating an health care discipline, independently of conventional medicine, in that it was able to propose principles embedding a new vision of man and health. This work will first lean over the life and the thought of the three founding fathers of the discipline, in order to look at the true essence of its fondamental tenets. We will then try to compare them to the principles of today’s osteopathic philosophy, so as to know how they evolved alter one and a half century of major scientific, religious and social changes. In this way we will be in a better position to evaluate the stakes lying behind those principles for all our profession. At least, we will analyse the different kinds of practice stemming from distinct interpretations of osteopathic philosophy. Finally we will determine if we actually manage to be faithful to the philosophy of our discipline.
