Osteopathy and Infection

ABSTRACT

Background : There was a time when osteopathy was addressed to critical situations. At present, the osteopathic approach of the infectious state seems to be abandoned for legal reasons in particular. However, it can be a valuable addition to medical treatment.

Method : A regular monthly follow-up was carried out with our two subjects, one with Parkinson’s disease and the other with COVID-19. The SF-36 and PDQ-39 surveys were completed at a rate of 1 per 2 consultations for Parkinson’s disease. For COVID-19 infection, the surveys were completed before and during the infection, and after the treatment.

Results : The results obtained showed an improvement or stabilization of the quality of life and symptomatology of Parkinson’s disease. These results are observed in particular on the post-confinement period. While for the symptomatology of COVID-19, we observe a recovery of more than 50% of the patient’s capacities after osteopathic treatment.

Conclusion : The observations confirm the hypothesis of a benefit by osteopathy associated with a lymphatic pump technique on the quality of life as well as a reduction of the symptomatology of our subjects.
